An unbeaten half century from Collins Obuya drove Nairobi Nookers to an eight-wicket victory over Swamibapa at Ngara Sport Club in the NPCA 50 overs tournament on Sunday.
At Nairobi Club, Kongonis beat Nairobi Gymkhana by one wicket to qualify for the last four.
Swamibapa loss was its third in a row for the former cricket powerhouse and thus meaning that they are bundled out of the event.
The number three batsman remained unbeaten on 63 after his side had bowled out Swamibapa cheaply on 78 in 20 overs.
After losing Kennedy Obuya for a duck Collins made sure that his side did not loss more wickets and took charge to see his side win in 13.3 overs.
The man of the match Obuya was delighted by his contribution to the win.
“I’m really happy about my contribution. It was a low score and so we wanted to bat through the innings.
“I think the team confidence is really high at the moment. After our loss to Premier last weekend we spoke about little areas we wanted to improve. It certainly helped as the bowlers kept a good line while the batters did their job — it was a great team effort.”
Earlier, Nookers seamers led by youngster Steve Biko had skittled out Swamibapa setting the stage for an ultimately easy victory.Francis Otieno top scored for Swamibapa with 13 while Biko claimed four for 26. Ibrahim Akello was the other outstanding bowler with 2 for 27.
In the Kongonis versus Gymkhana match, opener Alex Obanda scored 102 runs as Kongonis reached Gymkhana’s total of 254 for 9 with a wicket in hand. Nehemiah Odhiambo and Karan Kaul had steered their team to the total with 68 and 45 runs respectively.
Martin Mworia was Gymkhana’s main destroyer with 3 for 41. In reply Kongonis lost nine wickets but the damage Obanda had created was massive. Dominic Wesonga made 30 as Emmanuel Bundi picked 3 for 42.
