Kenya Ladies cricket team won theTwenty20 Uganda Tour series 3-1 after beating their hosts by 32 runs in the last of the five matches at Lugogo Oval.
Kenya who had lost the two one day matches and the first T20 matches on Thursday before recovering to win the third and fourth matches put on 94 runs for 3 with Emily Ruto top scoring with 23 runs.
The hosts could only manage 62 runs thanks to Kenya’s spirited performance on the field. Ruto and her spin partner Pearlyne Omamo led Kenya defense with three wickets each.
Opening the batting for the first time in the series, Sarah Bhakita put on 16. She put on 23 for the opening stand with Omamo (15). After the dismissal of Omamo, Bhakita added on 24 with Ruto before she was bowled with scores on 47 runs.
Margaret Banja who didn’t have a good show with the bat then got the scores to 92 with Ruto making unbeaten 18. Mercy Adhiambo dispatched Frankline Najjumba’s last delivery to the boundary to remain unbeaten on 4.
The home side started their chase in a bad start when they lost three wickets of Caroline Namugenyi, Barbara Mukankusi and Scovia Akello with scores on 11. Ruto was the architecture of this with the wickets of Mukankusi for two and Akello for a golden duck.
Rita Nyagendo was the only batter to put on any fight in the inning for the hosts with unbeaten 15 runs.
On day two of the T20 matches, Adhiambo put on a splendid show with the bat, making 35 runs as she led her team to the series lead 2-1. Her effort saw Kenya overhaul Uganda’s set target of 79 runs with only one ball to spare.
Kenya restricted Uganda to 79 for 9 Omamo picking 2 for 14. Nyangendo was yet again the only batter to have a clue on how to tackle the Kenya bowling with another unbeaten 15.
Ruto made 20 in the inning after Omamo had been caught for a duck. Ruto and Adhiambo put on 55 runs for the second wicket before she was bowled off Prico Nakitende’s first delivery of the match.
Adhiambo followed moments later with scores on 60 but Banja remained cool and made the required eight off the last over.
Adhiambo was yet again the heroine in the second match of day two with unbeaten 22 as Kenya made 73 before restricting Uganda to 70 runs to win by 3 wickets.
Emily Ruto and Quinta Aoko made 18 each. Omamo picked 2 for 13 and Ruto and Ruth Mwihaki got one wickets each.
Kenya had lost the first T20 match by 2 wickets.
