Ruto to captain ladies squad for Uganda series

Kenya has named a 14-player squad of women to tour Uganda which will be led by all rounder Emily “Chepcricket’ Ruto and sees opener Pearlyne Omamo making a comeback into the team

The squad is scheduled to leave Nairobi for Kampala on Saturday (1st September, 2012) evening for the seven matches’ tour.

The squad includes five uncapped players namely Jane Achieng, Faith Mwende, Hannah Ngina, Jackline Atieno and Lydia Kaparo.

Omamo missed last year's Africa Senior Women T20 Championships in Uganda

Achieng and Ngina were the top batters in the National Junior Championships held at Greensteds International School, Nakuru two weeks ago.

Mwende was the best bowler in the event and by having played for the senior team in most of the matches this year; she will fit in the team easily.

Kaparo has been impressive this year and her inclusion in the team didn’t come as a surprise.

Mako Wako and Quinta Aoko who were part of the team that played in the Africa Senior Women T20 Championships in Uganda have also made it in the team.

Notable absentee in the squad is opening bowler Belinda Maska who couldnt make it due to work engagements.
