Rift retain schools title

Rift Valley Development clinched the National Secondary Schools League when they recorded a five-wicket victory over Peter Kibukosya in the final at the Ruaraka Sports Club on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Kibukosya faced serious batting jolt and were cheaply dismissed at 66 runs in 15.3 overs.
Middle order Janet Mijide scored 18 runs followed by two down Rose Jeptoo (15) and cameo of Nina Anyango  (12 n.o).

Esther Wangare grabbed four wickets conceding 13 runs while Edith Wanjiku supported her with three wickets for nine.
Besides, Samira Hassan captured two wickets for 11 runs.

Chasing the paltry target of 67 runs, Rift Valley Development easily reached their destination making 69 runs in 14.3 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Ruth Ambiyo, Quinter Aooko, Jackline Fatuma were the top scorers for the victors with 14, 13 and 17 runs respectively.

Faith Mwende picked two wickets while Esther Wangu, Anyango and Helda Atieno took one wicket each.

Esther Wangare was adjudged the player of the tournament while Wanjiku was named the best bowler of the tournament.

Mijide was declared the best batter.

With the completion of the secondary schools league, action now shifts to the National Junior Championships from August 12-16.
