The tournament heats up and shapes up to mould the front runners of this year’s competition. Quite a few names have emerged and some frontrunners ones undergoing revitalisation of sorts.

Mombasa Heats hosting Mombasa Jaffery “B” valiantly fought to win once again against Jaffery B at the later’s ground last weekend and instead turned cool in the dying over to lose by 218 runs. Having lost the toss and put in to field, Mombasa Heats fielded for 40 over with Jaffery B amassing a whooping 350 for the loss of 5 wickets. Between the trio of Steve Tikolo, Jimmy Kamande and Thomas odoyo, a total of 220 runs were posted with 7 towering sixes in the closing over of the innings by Thomas Odoyo.

 However, it was a charged younger side that really carried the day for Jaffery B with youngster Hussein KG opening with Steve Tikolo batting for 16 over to get a patient 48 against his name and coming later to ball and pick 3 wickets with support of Kumail Okera (2/31), Suhail Jiwa (2/16) and Alijawad (1/9) The youngsters balled their hearts out with minimal bowling assistance from seniors.

Whilst elsewhere JAFFERY ‘A’ being hosted by SCLPS at the Coast Gymkhana ground found themselves in murky waters. Batting first, Jaffery A posted a hard fought 223 with major contribution to the score being Mohamed Fazle with 90. The rest of the batting line up struggled to score against the SCLPS all-rounder Paresh Gami (4/51) & Paresh Bhudia (2/49) with some fantastic fielding from SCLPS. Batting second SCLPS lost 3 quick wicket at score of 47 but fantastic batting by Paresh Gami (56) and Paresh Bhudia (54) steer a SCLPS to 2 wicket win over league frontrunner JSC A in nail-biting game.JSC A still in the running for the top spot need to work hard to win their remaining fixtures in the second round of the CCA 40 Over league.

In contrast, at Burhani Grounds also home to Simba Union, Coast Gymkhana A were put in to bat by Simba union and posted a moderate total of 228 for 9 in their allotted over against some good performance by Moh’d Noman (4/35) and Yusuf Hussein (2/16). Healthy contributions came from Sanjay Patel (50), Nirav Pandya (41) and Pradeep Patel (42). In reply, Simba failed to create healthy partnerships and succumbed to another great bowling and fielding display from Coast Gymkhana to close at 172 for 8 in 40 over. Nirav Pandya was once again in the heart of the attack with 3 for 26 as well as Pradeep Patel taking 2 for 28.

The chase for the top heats up as Mombasa Sports Club lead with a narrow margin with Coast Gymkhana hard at their tail and Jaffery A and Simba Union taking 3^rd and 4^th positions respectively
