Mooney the hero as Ireland claim a series whitewash

John Mooney bowled a magnificent final over in Mombasa to deny Kenya a seemingly assured victory and hand Ireland a Twenty20 series whitewash.

Kenya required 13 runs from the last two overs bowled by George Dockrell and John Mooney but the Irish bowlers grabbed an unlikely victory thanks to some varied depth bowling on a low scoring day.

Kenya had only a modest score of 107 to overhaul and was cruising while skipper Collins Obuya and Tanmay Mishra were in the middle after the early loses of David Obuya and Duncan Allan.

Boyd Rankin broke the Obuya-Mishra partnership when he cleaned up the Kenyan captain on 42 and then Mishra perished for 37, Kenya had batsman needing to come in and settle while the asking rate kept climbing.

In the end, it was Mooney who stole the limelight with some measured bowling to give the Irish victory yet again.

Earlier on, Kenya had bowled brilliantly to keep Ireland to a low total, man of the match Shem Ngoche the pick of the bowlers with his 4-14 from 3 overs.
