Kenya women thrash Nigeria in Africa Cup

Kenya women team ensured that Nigeria endured a baptism of fire when they beat them by 10 wickets on the opening day of the Africa Women’s Cup at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Uganda.

Nigeria claimed the toss and opted to bat and Kenya was soon in to her stride picking both openers for nought inside the opening two overs thanks largely to some discipline bowling from Belinda Maska (2-2) and Mercyline Adhiambo (1-6).

Nigreia never recovered from that early setback and concluded their innings on 35 for 8 off 20 overs. Such a target was not going to be a challenge to the perennial campaigners from East Africa. They chased down that total inside five overs. Margaret Banja’s (17 not out) and skipper Emily Ruto’s (13 not out) concluded the job with 15 overs to spare.

Kenya plays Tanzania in their next match of the series.
