Netherlands squeeze past Kenya in 1st ODI

Netherlands defeated Kenya by 2 wickets in a rain-affected One Day International in Voorbog to take the lead of the two matches.

Rain interrupted the game twice, forcing overs to be reduced.

After winning the toss, Kenya posted 208 for the loss of eight wickets but the target was revised to 198 in 43 overs under Duckworth Lewis Method.

Riding on Peter Borrens 40 and Mudassar Bukhari 37, the hosts reached the target with an over with two wickets to spare.

The two put on 56 runs for the seventh wickets after Kenya had reduced them to 123 for six in 30 overs. Borren put on a menacing show in the match as he faced only 42 balls on his way to 40 runs. He fell to impressive Lucas Oluoch after they had batted for nine overs with Bukhari.

Bukhari fired significantly and displayed his destructive abilities scoring 37 from 29 balls including three boundaries and two sixes as he remained unbeaten.

Kenya were on the driving seat in the match as early as in the second over when Oluoch and Lameck Onyango picked a wicket each to reduce the hosts to 14 for 2. Michael Swart (30) and Wesley Barresi (13) added 46 for the third wicket. Onyango broke the stand when he had Swart caught by Tanmay Mishra in the 15 the over. The experienced bowler had another wicket when he had Barresi caught too three balls later.

But the hosts chase resurrected when Tim Greeters (32) and Tom de Growth (29) put on 43 for the fifth wicket.

Seren Waters with a well crafted 71 had guided Kenya to what looked to be a good total. The opener faced 100 balls hitting three balls and one six as three batsmen Rakep Patel (13), Duncan Allan (27) and Collins Obuya (7) batted around him. After the dismissal of Patel, Waters put on 65 runs for the second wicket with Allan who faced 44 balls before being caught at covers in 25th over.

After the dismissal of Allan, Collins only stayed for four overs before he was stumped.

Mishra added on 22 in and Irfan Karim scored 32 as Kenya closed in to a reasonable target. David Obuya 18 also looked important to the Kenya’s inning.
