The game between Kenya and Afghanistan U19s got underway after waiting for a major part of the day for the match to begin; but it was Afghanistan who produced an impressive performance to beat Kenya comprehensively by 9 wickets at the Limavady Cricket Club, in Derry Northern Ireland.
The match was reduced to 24-overs-a-side, and Kenya looked good with the bat to post 154 for five in 24 overs in which they owed much of this to opener Rahul Vishram who top-scored with 59 off 40 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Afghanistan chase was blistering and Kenya failed to cope with the Asian team overhauling the runs inside 18.4 overs with nine wickets to spare.Javed Ahmadi’s (86) and Hashmatullah Shaidi (63) were the two boys who got the job done in an unbeaten 138 run stand for the second wicket.
Kenya will rue this opportunities when they failed to bowl well in the tournament even when they seemed to have scored safe totals. They face Scotland U19s in their penultimate encounter of the event.
